Kuala Lumpur:

Malaysia Airlines is set to enhance its Trivandrum–Kuala Lumpur route with daily non-stop services starting 1 December 2025, a move that underscores the growing strategic partnership between Malaysia and India in aviation and tourism.

This expansion follows the strong performance of the route since its launch in November 2023, driven by rising demand from Indian leisure travellers and Southeast Asian business passengers. The frequency will increase from five to seven weekly flights beginning 12 September 2025, reinforcing South India’s role in Malaysia Airlines’ broader Asia-Pacific growth strategy.

With the addition of these flights, Malaysia Airlines will operate 77 weekly connections to 10 Indian cities, offering greater convenience and accessibility to Indian travellers. Kuala Lumpur will continue to serve as a vital hub for seamless onward connections to major destinations across Southeast Asia, including Singapore, Bali, Bangkok, Tokyo, and Sydney.

The expansion also supports India’s “Look East” policy and complements Kerala’s tourism ambitions to boost outreach to East Asia. The collaboration between Malaysia Airlines and Kerala Tourism aims to enhance air access, stimulate inbound and outbound tourism, and strengthen cultural and economic ties between both regions.

A key highlight for Indian travellers is Malaysia Airlines’ Bonus Side Trip (BST) programme, which allows passengers booking a return ticket from India to enjoy a complimentary domestic flight to one of seven Malaysian destinations such as Penang, Langkawi, Johor Bahru, or Kota Kinabalu. This initiative encourages multi-destination travel within Malaysia, enriching the travel experience and supporting local economies across the country.

Malaysia Airlines’ Chief Commercial Officer reaffirmed India’s strategic significance, noting that the airline’s long-term blueprint includes expanding capacity, routes, and value-added services for Indian customers.

The growing middle-class travel segment, easing visa policies, and strong cultural connections between the two nations further bolster the route’s prospects. As Malaysia and India work closely to deepen tourism cooperation, the expanded route is poised to become a key artery for mutual growth, enhanced connectivity, and shared prosperity.
