CHINA:

During the current May Day holiday, the country's tourism market is anticipated to perform at its best post-Covid, according to insiders in the sector, who added that it could also mark a turning point in the sector's recovery.

Train tickets for departures from Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station to locations worldwide were sold out early on Friday, the day before the holiday.

According to the most recent data from China State Railway Group Company, 12,064 passenger trains were running across the country on Saturday, handling a record-breaking 19.66 million journeys overall. Additionally, according to civil aviation authorities, the number of passengers flying reached a record high on Saturday of about 2.04 million, up 441.8% from the previous year.

Tourist hotspots were also overrun by visitors.

According to Shanghai's tourism bureau, more than 3.06 million tourists visited the city on Saturday.

"I never anticipated such a large number of travelers." "It blew my mind," said 32-year-old Wang Yalu from Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, who is spending four days with her family vacationing in Sanya, a coastal city in Hainan province. She said she made the travel arrangements a month ago.

On Saturday, over 22,800 people visited The Humble Administrator's Garden in Suzhou, Jiangsu province, a traditional Chinese garden and a World Cultural Heritage Site.

The official website for the garden stated that, as of Saturday, all tickets from Sunday through today had already been purchased.

According to Dai Bin, president of the China Tourism Academy, "Chinese travelers are anticipated to make over 240 million trips during the five-day holiday, a growth of about 104% compared with 2019—before the epidemic hit."

Over 120 billion yuan (RM 77 billion) in tourism-related revenue will come from visits and travel, which is about 83% more than what was made during the same period in 2019.

Traveling abroad is also very popular. The National Immigration Administration estimates that throughout the vacation, there will be more than 1.2 million daily average entries and exits from China's border ports, double the amount during the same period in 2018 and around 57% more than in 2019.

Trip.com, an online travel agency, said recently that its consumers have expressed a great interest in international travel over the holiday.

According to the report, searches for international airline tickets climbed by 120 percent as of April 20 compared to the same period in 2018.
