PORT DICKSON :

The Malaysian Forestry Department (JPSM) remains committed to improving adventure tourism with a good tourism niche potential.

Datuk Zahari Ibrahim, deputy general director of policy and planning, said that Malaysia's forest strength could make it a one-stop country in tourism adventure.

“Water, land, or air adventure activities by tourists can contribute towards boosting the country’s revenue.

“To date, there are 114 Forest Eco Parks and 13 forest state parks covering an area of 400,000 hectares (ha) in protected forest areas that offer adventure tourism activities,” he said.

He was talking to reporters when met at the closing ceremony of the Malaysia Tourism Excellence (MaTEx) Business Certification Programme Evaluation Course.

He said that Adventure Tourism could also be a new way of achieving income in the forestry sector, especially in the state.

Meanwhile, Uzaidi Udanis, Tourism Products President of the Nexus, said that collaboration with JPSM made forestry an attractive tourism commodity.

“The tourism sector is more focused on 'selling' the experience to visitors and forestry will give a different satisfaction as well as strengthen the tourism industry and reinforce the quality of products for visitors to enjoy," he explained.
