GEORGE TOWN:

A new Penang tour package is expected to draw state revenue of RM1.54 million by the end of October, as curated by the Malaysian Chinese Tourism Association (MCTA) Penang Chapter.

State Tourism, Arts, Culture and Heritage Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin said the 23 best tour packages of the "Jom! Experience Penang" domestic tourist campaign that launched on Monday aims to raise state incomes and contribute to the gross domestic product ( GDP) of state and local industry, to boost the local industry and to protect the workforce of the travel industry.

"6,000 tourists from the various state in Malaysia have been aimed at the tour packages, which are expected to generate RM1.54 million of turnover for multiple sectors in Penang, generating RM1,23 million of return in investment," he said.

Meanwhile, Andy Chuah, Chairman of the MCTA Penang Chapter said the 23 tour packages covering all the tourist destinations in the state would be promoted across Malaysia by the 80 members of the MCTA Penang Chapter, as well as on various social media, websites and key opinion leaders of Malaysia.

"The tour packages that we offer are priced starting from RM15 (per pax) and I would say that this is a once-in-a-lifetime deal that is not to be missed," he said.

Chuah expressed hope that if they received positive responses, the State government would consider extending the tour packages to the year-end.
