SABAH:

About 20 superb riders will tour Sabah and Labuan on a 7-day "Jelajah Borneo 2019" tour that started yesterday (Sunday) to promote Borneo as the motorcycling resort. They will journey through 2,000km covering 35 towns and districts.

The trips will cover 100 tourism destinations, both here, west and east coast, as well as the interiors of Sabah and Labuan, organized by Persatuan Anak Tanjung Aru in partnership with the Sabah Big Bikers Association.

"I think that both organizers have always been able to promote the tourism sector in the City," Chief Minister Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal explained when he launched the event in a hotel on Saturday. The Assistant Minister for Culture, Tourism and the Environment, Assafal Alian, read his speech.

"It will also develop economic growth in the State. A tourism program such as this should be enabled by opening it up to better economic opportunities at the national level," he said.

Shafie said tourism-related High Impact programs such as JBorneo 19 must be empowered to achieve the maximum level of exposure through opening participation at the national level.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the organization Hosin Bayani said JBorneo 19 was part of his Visit Malaysia Year 2020 initiatives.

"The first major tourism destination for motorsports or bike sports is Borneo through Sabah," he said.

The convoy will stop in SMK Sukau, Taman Wawasan Tawau and Keningau for charitable activities.
