The largest Covid-19 vaccination centre (PPV) in Penang will began operating today at Setia Spice Convention Centre with the capacity of inoculating 5,000 people a day.
The PPV cantre will operate from 1st August until 30th October 2021 for three months. The static PPV at Setia Spice Convention Centre is open from 9.00am Monday to Friday, and on Sunday as well.
Chief Minister of Penang, Chow Kon Yeow said they will start with 3,000 vaccine recipients.
“The capacity for the PPV is 5,000 so from 3rd to 8th August we will start with 3,000 recipients and eventual increase to 5,000 recipients per day,” he said.
He said all of the volunteers for the PPV are from the government bodies and also Setia Spice staff.
“We have about 181 volunteers who are from the government bodies to help in the operations of the PPVs,” he said.
He also said that through this, Penang will be able to achieve 100 percent vaccination for the first dose in first week of September 2021.
The vaccination program will be held in the Arena and Convention centre. For those who have been appointed to Arena, they will receive astrazeneca.
If the public intend to change the vaccine, they will need to register in MySejahtera for a new date.
SP Setia Senior Executive Vice President Datuk Seri Koe Peng Kang said it currently holds the record for the highest daily record of vaccines administered and is expected to increase to a total of approximately 26,800 doses of vaccines administered daily at its PPVs by August.
“Our aim to help accelerate the NCIP remains. With the Covid-19 cases hitting a record high of more than 17,000 cases recently, the programme’s speed must be increased to achieve the desired inoculation of 80% of the population as soon as possible.
“Hence, the more PPVs made available to assist the government, the more doses can be administered to the people daily,” he said.
55% of Penang residents have received their first dose. Penang intends to successfully complete its vaccination as soon as possible.
