The Tournament paved the way for the strengthening of existing relationships, as long as nurture new ones in a competitive yet enjoyable setting.

The 3rd Tourism Selangor Golf Tournament 2021 was supported by Tourism Malaysia, Permodalan Negeri Selangor Berhad, Perbadanan Kemajuan Pertanian Selangor, Westport (M) Berhad, Northport (M) Berhad, Central Spectrum (M) Sdn Bhd, KDEB Waste Management, Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Selangor, Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI Selangor), Srixon, Titani of Switzerland, Liquid Marketing Sdn. The Tournament’s first tee was executed at 7.00 a.m on Sunday, with Y.A.B. Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, Dato’ Menteri Besar Selangor, showcasing his golfing skills on the challenging golf course, joining the Tournament’s 133 contesting golfers.

Meanwhile, Y.B. Tuan Hee Loy Sian, Selangor State’s Executive Council Member of Tourism and Environment in a statement shared; “Having taken a step into the Phase 4 of National Recovery Plan, it is the right time to reset the tourism industry in Selangor, and in particular, revive golf tourism to its glory days”.

“Golf tourism poses a vast potential in drawing significant number of tourists into the State, as well as contributes prominently towards the State’s economy. Golf has emerged as one of the fastest-growing tourism trends, and Tourism Selangor has done an outstanding job with its various initiatives, including hosting the 3rd Tourism Selangor Golf Tournament 2021”, Y.B. Tuan Hee Loy Sian added.

As Selangor is expected to become the host for more upcoming Golf Tournaments and Championships in the State post-pandemic, it is mandatory for organizers to strictly comply with the SOPs set by the Malaysian National Security Council (MKN) and the Ministry of Health Malaysia.

The State of Selangor through Tourism Selangor is committed to explore the opportunities and further leverage in the sports and golf tourism, as it poses as a key role in fuelling the State’s economy through domestic tourism. This tourism segmentation does not only benefit golf operators -- retail, accommodation, hospitality and transportation providers will also attain a positive impact from the travels. The buzz created from golf events will draw the tourists’ attention onto nearby tourism attractions such as the ones near to the Tournament’s venue in Rawang; Taman Eko Rimba Kanching and Taman Eko Rimba Komanwel.

Golf tourism acts a catalyst to creating an influx of local sports tourists into the State. With 29 Golf Clubs across the State -- the highest number in the country; Selangor truly is the leading and premier Golf Hub in Malaysia. Hence, it is not an intricate effort to further penetrate the golf tourism segmentation. This is also in line with Tourism Selangor’s Domestic Tourism Promotional Campaign, ‘Pusing Selangor Dulu’, which is growing in popularity among domestic travellers, with the #PusingSelangorDulu hashtag gaining over 22 million reach on social media since the Campaign’s official launch in December 2020.
