SABAH:

According to Datuk Christina Liew, there are numerous areas where Singapore and Sabah can collaborate, including tourism.

There is plenty of space for cooperation between the two parties, according to the Minister of Tourism, Culture, and the Environment of Sabah, and plans and conversations must be in place to make this happen.

She said that during his Wednesday (April 26) courtesy call to the ministry, Singapore's High Commissioner to Malaysia, Vanu Gopala Menon, brought up the subject as well.

Liew claimed that during the meeting, they discussed a variety of topics of shared interest, exchanged opinions, and looked at ways to expand their bilateral cooperation. They also talked about the continuing establishment of the Sabah Tourism and Trade Office (STTO) in Singapore.

"STTO is a positive development and will open up economic opportunities for Sabah and Singapore for mutual benefit," she declared.

She also expressed curiosity about learning more about the laws in Singapore that govern Airbnb hosts.

Regarding Sabah's attractions, Liew added that places like the Pulau Sipadan dive site, the Borneo Elephant Sanctuary, and the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre should not be missed.

Menon came on Tuesday (April 25) and will be in town until Saturday (April 29) on a business trip.

In light of the reopening of borders and the restart of foreign flights, he claimed that the purpose of the meeting with Liew was to examine prospects for collaboration while fostering relationships between the two parties.

"We talked about how to encourage tourist collaboration between Singapore and Sabah. I believe there are many things we can accomplish together, he was quoted as saying in a ministry press statement.

Menon expressed his hope that STTO would increase trade with Sabah and inspire more Singaporeans to travel to Sabah.

He stated that the partnership had the potential to last for a long time and that both Singapore and Sabah should endeavor to make it successful.

First secretaries Darren Kee Wei Jian and Warran Kalasegaran were with him.

Datuk Joniston Bangkuai, the assistant minister for tourism, culture, and the environment in Sabah, Alesia Sion, the deputy permanent secretary for the ministry, and Noredah Othman, the CEO of the Sabah Tourism Board (STB), were also present.
