MALAYSIA:

Tourism Malaysia is delighted to present the rich breakfast traditions of Malaysia at the inaugural Malaysia Travel Escapade 2024. This event will take place at Suntec City Mall’s Convention Centre in Singapore from April 12 to April 14, 2024. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the diverse and vibrant dishes that epitomize Malaysia’s multicultural heritage.

The breakfast corner at the event will offer a glimpse into Malaysia’s culinary scene, featuring staples like the aromatic nasi lemak, the beloved roti canai, and the classic teh tarik. This immersive experience allows guests to savor the essence of Malaysia through its iconic breakfast selections, complete with live teh tarik demonstrations and food tastings.

Additionally, Tourism Malaysia will highlight chi kut teh, a popular Chinese herbal soup and a worthy counterpart to the nationally revered bak kut teh. This is part of their broader effort to celebrate and promote the unique aspects of Malaysian cuisine.

Ms Mohana Murni Shanmugam, Deputy Director of Tourism Malaysia Singapore, stated: “We are thrilled to showcase Malaysian breakfast culture and give visitors a taste of authentic Malaysia’s culinary delights. We believe the Malaysian breakfast culture, though similar to Singapore’s, is still culturally unique and becoming part and parcel of Malaysia’s heritage, deserving recognition and promotion as we gear up for Visit Malaysia Year 2026.”

“Last year, the Malaysian government submitted a nomination for Malaysian breakfast culture to be inscribed in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list.”

The Malaysia Travel Escapade 2024 will also feature displays of Sarawak’s local products and traditional spa treatments offered by the Association of Malaysian Spas (AMSPA).

With a goal to attract 27.3 million international tourists in 2024 and generate RM102.7 billion in tourism revenue, Malaysia views Singapore as a vital market, given its significant contribution to the 8.3 million tourist arrivals in 2023. The upcoming Visit Malaysia Year 2026 aims even higher, with a target of 35.6 million international visitors and RM147.1 billion in tourism receipts.
