Tourism Selangor signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ESports Selangor Association on Monday which establishes the incorporation of e-sports into tourism; an addition to Selangor’s various tourism segmentations.
Signing on behalf of Tourism Selangor was its General Manager, Azrul Shah Mohamad, and Mr. Abdul Razak Mohd Yusof, President of ESports Selangor Association. The ceremony which took place virtually on Tourism Selangor’s Facebook Page saw the Official Tourism Promotion Agency of Selangor State marked yet another milestone towards realizing “Tourism 4.0” and tourism digitalization.
“This Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is a milestone to Tourism Selangor for penetrating this niche tourism segmentation with a largely growing fan-base. Selangor has always been advanced in many aspects, and this collaboration is a catalyst towards establishing Selangor as the “State of E-sports”; which will be the first-ever in Malaysia", Azrul Shah Mohamad in a statement shared.
“As there have been increased demands by the e-sports community especially in the last few years, Tourism Selangor sees the vast potential of e-sports in boosting tourism; especially when Selangor proudly roofs the ESports Selangor National Arena”, Mr. Azrul
Meanwhile,Abdul Razak shared, “The MOU between Tourism Selangor and ESports Selangor Association marks our first official collaboration in incorporating e-sports into tourism. With the advent of ESports Selangor National Arena, the biggest e-sports hub in
South-East Asia located in the heart of Shah Alam, it will certainly contribute towards the tourism industry in Selangor in the event of future national and international tournaments”.
Tourism Selangor aspires to receive an influx of tourists especially comprising the e-sports community; domestic and international. With its Domestic Tourism Promotional Campaign; “Pusing Selangor Dulu” making waves on social media, the “Splendid Selangor, Take Me Anywhere” Campaign, on the other hand, is expected to kick-off once the country is open for commercial international travels.
