BAYAN LEPAS :

World Hospitality, Lifestyle, and Entertainment Exhibition & Conference (WHOLE PENANG 2020) held at Setia SPICE for three days kick-started today, the first Hybrid Conference in Malaysia for the hospital and tourism industry.

Tourism, Arts, and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri was present to launch the World Hospitality, Lifestyle, and Entertainment Exhibition (WHOLE) 2020. She said that it was time for the event to be held in Penang as it will help boost domestic tourism in the state.

" With Penang being known internationally as a prime destination for both business and leisure travellers, I am confident that WHOLE 2020 will allow all of us to build connections that will no doubt be of great use in jump-starting respective tourism and hospitality sectors", she said.

" The outlook for the trade and business events industry in Malaysia is on the positive side, but the government has to be cautious about opening our international borders to curb the spread of COVID-19", she added.

She said from January to August this year, the Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), in collaboration with local associations, had successfully managed to bid and secure 20 international conferences from 2020 until 2024 with an estimated targeted number of 14,000 delegates.

"This will bring an estimated economic impact of RM173 million into the country," she said.

She also said that today's event will be a milestone for the future of the industry as 100 companies took part to exhibit physically and 80 virtual booths.

The three-day event, until September 12, is expected to attract more than 3,000 trade and government visitors from all over Malaysia.
