Langkawi has recorded remarkable growth in its tourism sector, welcoming over 1.5 million visitors in the first six months of 2025. According to the Langkawi Development Authority (LADA), the island received a total of 1,525,953 tourists between January and June, achieving 43.6% of its annual target of 3.5 million arrivals. Of this figure, 1,325,225 were domestic travellers, while 200,728 were international tourists from markets such as India, China, the United Kingdom, Poland, and Russia. The second half of the year is expected to bring even stronger momentum with major events lined up, including the Seadoo Social Club Asia in September, Ironman Malaysia Langkawi in November, and the Langkawi Writers Festival in December.
To further stimulate arrivals, LADA in collaboration with Malaysian Aviation Group (MAG) has launched the Langkawi Special Deals campaign, running from October to December, offering discounts of between 20% and 70% on flights, hotels, attractions, and duty-free shopping. Meanwhile, the federal government has introduced visa relaxations, notably 30-day visa-free entry for Indian nationals and the new MyVISA 2.0 online system, simplifying travel procedures for international visitors.
Langkawi’s hospitality industry is also set to benefit from new investments, with the opening of Hilton Burau Bay Resort Langkawi later this year and the recently launched ParkRoyal Langkawi Resort at Pantai Tengah, both adding to the island’s premium accommodation offerings. At the same time, RM1 million has been allocated for local community projects, including upgrades to Masjid Ar-Rahman and improvements in schools, underscoring efforts to enhance both resident welfare and the visitor experience.
With these developments, Langkawi is projected to surpass 3 million tourist arrivals by the end of 2025, reinforcing its position as one of Malaysia’s most iconic and sought-after destinations.
