To promote travel between China and Malaysia and raise tourist traffic between the two nations, China's flag carrier airline Air China has officially started operating a direct international route from Chengdu (Tianfu) to Kuala Lumpur.
At 5.58 p.m. today, the inaugural flight, CA483, arrived at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) after leaving Chengdu Tianfu International Airport.
More than 150 passengers from the inaugural flight were welcomed by Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, after receiving a ceremonial salute from firetrucks from KLIA's Airport Fire and Rescue Services (AFRS).
This (the inaugural flight) demonstrates how strongly Chinese tourists are supporting Malaysia.
So that we can accommodate all of these tourists arriving from all over the world and ensure the prosperity of our nation's economy, we must continue to improve our services, he said.
Ouyang Yujing, the ambassador of China to Malaysia, was also present for the inaugural flight's arrival ceremony.
On Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, Air China will run four weekly flights to and from Chengdu.
