INDONESIA:

According to Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno, the government must increase the number of flights, expand airport capacity, and relax visa-on-arrival (VoA) regulations to promote international visitor arrivals.

He expressed this aim after a meeting with President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) on Tuesday at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta. "We hope these measures will attract more tourists to visit Indonesia," he said.

He gave Jokowi a report on the state of the tourism sector in the first half of 2023 during the meeting, with an emphasis on the recovery indicator, which outperformed the growth objective of 10-15%.

He said that coordination between ministries and institutions was key to the tourism sector's resurgence in the first half of 2023. To reach the goal of 8.5 million foreign guests this year, rehabilitation activities are still ongoing.

The planned number of foreign visitor arrivals for this year was previously boosted by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy from 7.4 million to 8.5 million.

The goal was increased as a result of the first quarter of 2023's tourism recovery in Asia-Pacific nations, particularly in China and Australia.

The tourism industry in Indonesia's two main export destinations.

According to Uno, the government wants to create 4.4 million employment by 2024 and 2.6 million jobs in the tourism industry by 2023.

The aim of export value of US$27 billion in the first semester exceeded all expectations, he said, adding that the "creative economy is also growing well."
