SINGAPORE:

With Singapore Airlines increasing the frequency of its flights from Adelaide to ten weekly beginning in October of next year, more travellers will be getting set to board their planes for South Australia.

The announcement follows the airline's recent introduction of the B787-10 Dreamliners to the Adelaide route, increasing capacity by 34 seats per flight, or an 11% boost, and will significantly boost tourism and the overall economy in South Australia.

An extra 105,000 tickets will be available yearly as a result of the change from daily flights to a full schedule of 10 flights per week.

“Singapore Airlines have long been a wonderful supporter of the Adelaide market, and they have again shown their faith in our projected growth by adding three additional services per week. We are confident of further international growth out of Adelaide with positive discussions currently underway with a number of international airlines,” Adelaide Airport Managing Director Brenton Cox says.

Singapore Airlines has also scheduled an additional 4 flights per week to Adelaide between December 2023 and January 2024.

The announcement of the additional flights comes after the recent positive news for Adelaide Airport, with several international and domestic carriers either launching new services or increasing their existing ones in South Australia.

Currently, eight international airlines are conducting 45 weekly flights to Adelaide, with further capacity confirmed for the coming months, and these incoming international flights bring more than 11,000 passengers into South Australia every week.

The addition of these new international routes is also expected to unlock fresh business and trade opportunities for the state.

Minister for Tourism Zoe Bettison says increased flight capacity is a great result for tourism and investment in SA and the announcement is another great sign of confidence from Singapore Airlines in the Adelaide market which shows airlines are keen to fly to Adelaide as new capacity allows.

“This is genuine growth in South Australia’s aviation capacity that takes us beyond pre-COVID levels. Not only do we have additional flights, but Singapore Airlines will be flying bigger aircrafts with the introduction of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner on the route creating an additional 34 seats per flight,” she says.

“It is essential that we continue to strengthen our relationships with leading airline providers and pursue new opportunities for South Australia to secure new airlines, increase number of flights and reinstate flights that link South Australia with key tourism markets interstate and international business hubs.”

“More capacity will assist our strong tourism sector and help capitalise on the significant amount of South Australian events ahead.”

As of November 10th, Batik Air Indonesia began their Indonesian services, building upon their Malaysian operations. The airline will introduce two new weekly services from Denpasar to Adelaide from November, with plans to increase this to four services per week in December. This marks Batik Air’s status as South Australia’s first international carrier serving multiple direct destinations.

Meanwhile, VietJet is preparing to operate five flights per week starting November 21st, a move poised to open up new avenues for South Australia in terms of tourism and trade opportunities across key markets in Asia.

On the domestic front, the aviation industry is inching closer to pre-COVID levels, with Qantas, Jetstar, Virgin Australia, and Rex Airlines collectively operating an impressive total of 515 domestic flights to Adelaide each week, equating to 82,690 seats. REX also recently started their Adelaide-Brisbane services, enhancing domestic connectivity for travelers.

Singapore Airlines tickets will be available for sale progressively through their various distribution channels so travellers can easily access the additional flight options.
