INDONESIA:

Deputy Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Angela Tanoesoedibjo, expressed on Friday, December 1, 2023, that her ministry supports the #DiIndonesiaAja Domestic Travel Fair (DIATF) 2023, which aims to promote the Proud to Travel in Indonesia (BBWI) Program.

"The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy supports the travel fair that focuses on Indonesian tourism," she said at the opening of DIATF 2023 in Jakarta.

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, domestic destinations have become the backbone of Indonesian tourism, she noted.

Indonesia's population of 280 million, especially the younger generation, holds immense potential to reach the target of domestic tourist visits, she added.

She invited stakeholders to collaborate on offering attractive packages to the public.

Meanwhile, Odo R.M. Manuhutu, Deputy for Tourism and creative economy at the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment, said that the government is relying on domestic tourist destinations to achieve the goal of 1.2 billion to 1.4 billion domestic tourist trips.

This is to ensure that during a crisis, Indonesia's tourism sector can survive by relying on domestic tourism, he explained.

Other countries like Thailand have also shifted focus to domestic tourists, he pointed out.

"Recently, the Thai government has begun to back its domestic tourists, including increasing the number of holidays, and to encourage the coffee shop and cafe sector," he said.

This is the second time the DIATF is being held this year.

The event has been organized in collaboration with the Indonesia Travel Agents Association (Astindo) and Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS), with the support of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy and the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment.
