KOMTAR covered in red light, as a symbol of appreciation to the nurses

The Tun Abdul Razak Complex (KOMTAR) is illuminated with red Light to express appreciation for the efforts and sacrifices of nurses in curbing the pandemic COVID-19.

In a statement, Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said that the State Government took the initiative in conjunction with the International Nurses Day of 2020 celebrated annually on 12 May.

"Red has been selected for the bravery of the nurses, even though the country is now facing a tough time as a result of the threat to COVID-19. In Penang alone there are 5,636 nurses" he said.

He said red also indicates Penangite's highest appreciation to all nurses and medical staff, as well as the color of the ribbon chosen for the celebration. Tonight and tomorrow, from 8 pm until midnight the iconically building in Penang will be covered in red light.
