SIEM REAP:

Chinese tourist arrivals to Cambodia’s iconic Angkor Archaeological Park saw a notable increase in the first quarter of 2025, according to a report released by Angkor Enterprise, the state-owned agency managing ticket sales at the site.

From January to March, 30,509 Chinese tourists visited the ancient UNESCO-listed complex, representing a 38% rise compared to 22,095 visitors during the same period in 2024. China is now ranked as the fifth-largest source of foreign visitors to Angkor, following the United States, France, the United Kingdom, and South Korea.

Overall, the park welcomed 398,531 international visitors from 171 countries in Q1, a 14.6% increase year-on-year.

Tourism Minister Huot Hak highlighted Angkor Wat’s enduring significance as a symbol of Cambodia’s rich culture and civilisation, attracting global recognition. He also credited the new Siem Reap Angkor International Airport—developed with Chinese investment—for bolstering tourism and the local economy.

Covering 401 square kilometers in northwest Cambodia, the Angkor Archaeological Park is home to 91 historical temples dating back to the 9th to 13th centuries, and remains the nation’s top tourist attraction.
