PENANG:

An 8m tall Christmas tree is made from 2,800 recycled plastic bottles is all set to pull numerous crowd during the “Experience Christmas In Penang 2019” event at the Esplanade this weekend.

Rachel Teh, the Project manager said the eco-Christmas Tree would be mentioned in the Malaysia Book Of Records as the tallest upcycle tree in the country.

She said “It took about a week for the volunteers from developer IJM Land Bhd, the Penang Green Hero, which is a non-governmental organization, and Riiicycle Tech to set up the tree. We used recyclable items such as compact discs, fan grills, fan covers, and biscuit tins to decorate the tree.

“Most of the plastic bottles were collected while some others were donated by the manufacturing company as it was not easy to source for discarded bottles in similar luminous green color,”.

It is sais that the eco-tree will be lit every night until the end of December as part of a series of Christmas-themed events in Penang this year. The Grand Finale night on Sunday will also coincide with the Christmas Market, which will kick off today for three days from 5 pm to 11 pm.

Organized by the Penang Island City Council and the Christian Federation of Malaysia (CFM) Penang, the Christmas Market will feature 40 specially decorated stalls featuring food, beverages, gifts, and games.
