SARAWAK:

Once the COVID-19 pandemic ends, the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, and the Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office (STATOS) are cooperating to rekindle tourist arrivals from Singapore to the State.

In a correspondence, STATOS said that they were working with MOTAC to explore ways to tap the lucrative Singapore market, by making more tinkering and branding efforts in Sarawak's niche tourism regions which could give Singaporeans special interest.

“Alignment of our complimentary resources and intelligence means that the ministry and STATOS can look forward to a healthy strategic collaboration that will shape and accelerate future tourism outcomes from Singapore,”’ said MOTAC Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri during a virtual meeting between the ministry’s officials and STATOS recently.

Nancy said that Sarawak will improve its tourism economy and create new jobs after COVID-19, through the creation of profitable areas for niche tourism, such as trade-related tourism and food tourism, among others.

“Such areas are certainly promising to develop with the Singapore market in mind,” she added.

MOTAC has announced in September this year RM48.252 million to be allocated to 18 projects in Sarawak for the development of new tourism and cultural infrastructure.
