Unique mashup of food and heritage draws crowd to PIFF 2023's "Gourmet Stars of Penang"

The second week of the Penang International Food Festival 2023 (PIFF 2023) kicks off tonight with Gourmet Stars of Penang for a weekend celebration of Penang's finest food in Penang's historic landmark in the heart of the George Town UNESCO World Heritage Site Fort Cornwallis. Penang State EXCO for Tourism and Creative Economy (PETACE) YB Yeh Soon Hin presides over the opening ceremony.

In line with the 'Jom! Experience Penang', Gourmet Stars of Penang aims to shine a spotlight on Penang's latest gastronomy milestone as the very first state outside the capital of Malaysia to obtain Michelin stars and to showcase some of the state's finest cuisines. By organising the main event in Fort Cornwallis, the Festival also aims to deliver a unique opportunity for visitors to experience two of Penang's best tourism offerings food and heritage under one roof.

The two-day event features food from Michelin Guide-listed eateries, famous hawkers, and GrabFood Signatures dining places handpicked for the festival. Foodies from far and wide treat themselves to local fares such as char koay teow, chilli pan mee, assam laksa while nasi arab lamb shank, an assortment of traditional kuih, roti canai, nasi lemak and more attract Muslim foodies. Many visitors are also seen satisfying their cravings for international delights at stalls dishing out Japanese, Italian, and Western cuisines and quenching their thirst with tasty drinks ranging from fruit juices, fresh brew coffee, boba tea and more.

The event also sees the launching of the highly anticipated Michelin Guide video and promotional leaflet which demonstrate the flavours, aromas, and vibrant culture that puts Penang on the Michelin Guide's radar. Furthermore, the Michelin Guide video will also be featured on the Michelin Guide platform, providing the state with even greater exposure on a global scale, attracting a broader audience of culinary enthusiasts and adventurous travellers seeking extraordinary gastronomic experiences.

The event's Instagrammable hangout area adorned with eye-catching decorations lures camera-loving foodies to capture unforgettable PIFF 2023 moments with their family and friends.
Many visitors also discover every nook and corner of the historic landmark. Energising musical performances by local talent Somebody Who, as well as jaw-dropping fire shows and exciting LED drum performances add merriment to the gastronomic event.

The Penang International Food Festival 2023 is organised by Dream Productions Events Management, endorsed by the Penang State Government, and is fully supported by the Penang Island City Council (MBPP), Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP), and Penang Global Tourism (PGT).

PIFF 2023 is thrilled to have TikTok as the media partner, AirAsia Ride as the official e-hailing partner while GrabFood as the official food delivery partner for the festival.
