United targets mid-July to get back to pre-Covid activities

United Airlines has big plans for the upcoming northern summer, adding 400 flights to its July schedule and expanding services to newly available European destinations, with the goal of offering customers at least 80% of its pre-pandemic flight activity.

The strategy is based on the busiest monthly schedule in recent memory, as well as a 214 percent increase in summer travel bookings compared to the same period in 2020.

United Airlines is expanding its domestic service in the United States, with new routes to Bozeman (BZN), Orange County (SNA), Raleigh (RDU), and Yellowstone/Cody (COD). Customers will benefit from more convenient options as the airline adjusts its flight schedules at Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD) and Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) (IAD).

On the international network, United is providing more options for travellers to visit Europe from New York/Newark (EWR) by adding an additional weekly flight to Dubrovnik (DBV) beginning in July and increasing space by using a Boeing 777-200ER aircraft, which includes United Premium Plus seats, on services to Athens (ATH) beginning in July 2021.

United is also adding a second flight from Washington Dulles (IAD) to Frankfurt (FRA), with an evening departure and a one-stop connection to over 50 European cities via the Star Alliance partner Lufthansa. United also intends to resume service to Spain and Portugal, with flights from Newark (EWR) to Barcelona (BCN), Madrid (MAD), and Lisbon (LIS) (LIS). These locations are subject to travel openings for vaccinated visitors.

“As we start to see a strong desire from our customers to travel internationally to re=opened countries, we are excited to move up services and add a fourth weekly flight to Dubrovnik, Croatia, and with the additional seats we are adding to Athens, Greece, we continue to make creative adjustments to match our service with customer trends” commented Patrick Quayle, United Vice President of International Network and Alliances.

United provides all necessary information on health and entry requirements to passengers travelling internationally. Customers can use United's digital platform to search for, book, and upload COVID-19 tests and vaccination records. The airline is also one of the first in the United States to make it simple for international travellers to bring a CDC-approved test with them, self-administer it while abroad, and return home.
