JOHAR:

The Johor government has set a target of RM27.32 billion in return to the tourism expenditure for the Visit Johor 2020 campaign throughout the year.

Johor Women Development and Tourism Committee chairman Liow Cai Tung said the state government had also set a target of 18.4 million visitor arrival and 8.4 million overnight visitors in Johor next year.

She said that the state government was optimistic about how the target was achievable as the trend of tourist arrivals has shown an increase over the last three years.

“As a result, Johor has benefited in terms of tourism receipts of RM23.43 billion in 2017 and RM24.8 billion in 2018.

"The state government has set a target of RM26.04 billion in tourism expenditure this year," she said.

Cai Tung said Johor collected RM15.8 million in tourism tax last year, making it the fourth highest state in terms of tourism tax revenue last year after Sabah, Penang, and Selangor.

“On March 27, the Federal Government through the Ministry of Finance distributed 50 per cent of the 2018 tourism tax collection to their respective state governments.

"Johor received RM7.99 million as new revenue from the state government and the 50 percent distribution of the tourism tax revenue was a new grant to the state government called Tourism Grant," she said.
