PENANG:

In line with the Penang government's announcement that it will reopen the state's recreational parks on Saturday, the funicular service Penang Hill (Bukit Bendera) will be resumed on June 6.

In a statement by Penang Hill Corporation (PHC), the service would benefit residents, workers, and hikers while others have to wait for the relevant authorities to make further notifications.

Every hour from 7 am there is a funicular service and the last service from the upper station is at 7 pm.

"Hikers who climb the Heritage Trail are encouraged to register through PGCARE at the Bukit Bendera ground station for tracking purposes and to comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) set by authorities and PHC," the statement said.

Since the train is not operating in maximum capacity for the funicular service as per SOP, no train services will be available at the sub-stations for the hikers except at middle stations.

"Please note that David Brown's Restaurant & Tea Terrace will be in operation daily starting June 8.

“The Astaka will be closed until further notice, so visit the PHC official Facebook page for more information on Astaka's reopening date," the statement said.

The new standard SOP will be updated through the official PHC site and the public can call 04-828 8880 for an update or e-mail questions@penanghill.gov.my.
