PENANG:

The State government decided to reopen its recreational parks in Penang starting on Saturday after almost four weeks of the state declared as a green zone.

The matter was decided during the meetings of the state security work council (JKKN) chaired by Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

“I’m pleased to announce the reopening of recreational parks in Penang which include Taman Bandaraya, Taman Metropolitan Relau, Taman Botani Pulau Pinang, the Bukit Jambul hiking area, hiking activities at the Penang Hill from the heritage trail at the lower station and the jeep path entrance for pedestrians only.

“The operating hours of the parks are from 7 am to 7 pm and the number of visitors is limited to 200 people at any one time except for Taman Metropolitan Relau which is restricted to only 50 people,” he said in a  press conference broadcast live via his Facebook page.

Chow specified that all visitors must register using the PGCare application using the QR code.

Meanwhile, Chow who is also the Padang Kota assemblyman said the federal government had canceled the allocation of RM 100 million for the Penang Hill cable car alternative project.

He stated that the project's pre-feasibility analysis was still underway and was expected to end in the second half of the year.

The allocation was announced in the 2020 Budget, which was submitted in October last year by then finance minister Lim Guan Eng.
