Now, Malaysia is on track to launch its 5G network in June 2020. In January 2020, the government ran a control test in the island state of Langkawi. They managed to achieve gigabit speeds on a Huawei 5G phone.The Malaysian government has announced the industries that will be the focus area for 5G technologies. Malaysia is expected to power 6 states - Kedah, Perak, Penang, Selangor, Terengganu and the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur - with 5G by June 2020.
Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commissions (MCMC) chairman Al-Ishsal Ishak said, "5G technology is an economic imperative for Malaysia as it has the power to rejuvenate industries that are integral to the country’s economy."
Ishak aadded that a study conducted by the Malaysia Institute of Economic Research (MIER) showed that investing in the communication infrastructure sector would help Malaysia achieve convergence as a high-income country.
Ishak added "Following this study, MCMC has approached MIER to conduct a study on the impact of 5G to various industries in Malaysia,". He concluded by saying that 5G will enable small entrepreneurs to participate in various economic activities and provide a communication infrastructure for the people as well.
