MALAYSIA:

Airbnb has unveiled new measures to ensure that their hosts' accommodations are ready as the much-anticipated domestic travel boom begins this year.

Airbnb's general manager for India, Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, Amanpreet Bajaj, said the company worked with multiple experts from government health departments to ensure cleanliness and protection among the app's thousands of accommodations.

“An improved cleaning protocol was introduced, including the first overarching standardized cleaning and sanitization protocol.

Amanpreet said that all hosts must agree to wear masks, maintain social distance while communicating with others, and observe the enhanced cleaning protocol.

He went on to say that flexible policies and host relief were designed to give guests cancellation and refund options and that 8,700 superhosts around the world have earned grants of up to $5,000 to help with recovery efforts.

According to Amanpreet, Malaysians want to reconnect with their families once travel resumes, based on research conducted by Airbnb.

“Overall, staying close to our loved ones is the most important thing on Malaysians' minds, as family vacations continue to be the country's top travel priority, and relaxing destinations near nature will serve as a driving force for domestic tourism,” he said.

Penang, Sabah, Kuala Lumpur, Terengganu, and Johor are the top domestic travel destinations, according to Amanpreet, with Penang emerging as the top domestic travel destination, followed by Sabah, Kuala Lumpur, Terengganu, and Johor.

“Airbnb is committed to assisting Malaysia's long-term tourism development and economic recovery, as well as the local community.”
