PENANG:

Penang launched a campaign to stimulate the state's economy called "Penang-lang 50 percent off "yesterday.

The Penang Tourist Attractions Association (ATAP) has launched a campaign to rebuild the tourism industry in a state that has been badly affected by the Covid 19 outbreak in collaboration with Penang Tourism and the State Tourist Committee.

The campaign is for Penangites alone, or those who have a Penang residential address on their MyKad said ATAP chairman Huck Theng.

"There will be a 50% discount on the ticket prices in participating attractions for all Penangites in this campaign period," he said at a joint press conference with tourism state exco Yeoh Soon Hin.

He said more than 20 members from attractions, including retail outlets and thematic restaurants offer 50% off their admission tickets and excellent deals on products and services throughout the campaign.

The campaign is from March 15 till May 15.

Yeoh said the campaign is the first strategy to revitalize Penang's tourism sector and boost domestic tourism. The tagline for this campaign will be Cuti-cuti Penang.

"We would like to encourage Penangites to travel within Penang, experience Penang and get to know the locals," he said.

Penangites only have to show their MyKad to be eligible for the discount with the state code 07, 34 and 35 or a Penang address.

Participating attractions include The Top Penang, Tech Dome Penang, Dark Mansion-3D Glow in The Dark Museum, Penang Hop On Hop Off, Penang Bird Park, Entopia by Penang Butterfly Farm, Tropical Spice Garden, Teddyville Museum, Audi Dream Farm, The Habitat Penang Hill, Monkeycup Penang Hill, The Owl Museum Penang Hill and The Camera Museum Penang Hill.

The participating retailers and restaurants are Ghee Hiang, Cheong Kim Chuan Local Products, Harrison Signature Cocoa Boutique, Travis Hegel, Craft Batik and David Brown’s Restaurant and Tea Terrace.
