PENANG:

In an effort to help the creative industries affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, Penang launched the first e-commerce live streaming event, Malaysia, known as The Journey of Art: A Shelter to Artists.

State Tourism and Creative Economy Committee (PETACE) chairman Yeoh Soon Hin said Penang was the first state to create a "Creative Economy" executive councilor (exco) portfolio, which has then nurtured and developed the sector proactively through a series of programmes.

"The Journey of Art is another step forward by the Penang government to boost the creative economy sector and revive the industry from the financial difficulties caused by the pandemic," he told a press conference.

He said that Quinton Group is a winning Internet platform that aims to empower local artists through the development of a platform to promote this transition, while Penang House of Music is the sponsor of the event.

Quinton Group Director of International Business Development Jason Lim expects to improve Penang's creative economy's growth during the digital gathering, which will be held Dec 12-Jan 3, 2021.

"Each week, we will feature a specific theme, starting from handicraft, followed by painting, performance, and Made in George Town, which allows us to accommodate more artists and benefit more local creative talents," he said.

Artists interested in registering can contact Penang Art District on 04-261 6161 or email to info@penangartdistrict.com at https:/tinyurl.com /TheJourneyofArt on the Facebook page.
