SABAH:

A special allocation to improve rural roads used for tourism is being established by the state government.

The grant to be included in the Sabah 2020 Budget, to be submitted by next week. The news was announced by Rural Development Minister Ewon Benedick as part of his Ministry's initiative to help rural communities grow their tourism industry.

"I was informed that because of the lack of funds, most roads linking rural tourist spots cannot be developed or rehabilitated.

"As such, the cabinet has decided to set up a special committee for developing rural tourism policies including infrastructure improvements," he said in a statement.

The Budget 2020 also includes water and electricity allocations for rural areas, said Benedick, who is also the Kadamaian assemblyman.
