KOTA KINABALU:

The Ministry for Culture, Tourism and the Environment of Sabah will use a range of technology for the recovery of the tourism sector, in particular information technologies.

Datuk Jafry Ariffin said that the technologies involve a health-connected application system for ensuring the health and safety of a tourist from COVID-19.

"However, it requires the co-operation of tourists to provide health data whilst assuring them that their personal data are secure," he said in a statement.

Jafry has said that all State Tourism projects are in compliance with the UN World Tourist Organization (UNWTO) guidelines for the resumption of tourism.

He said tourists' comfort was a matter of priority to ensure their satisfaction with the new tourist infrastructure post-COVID-19.

"For the short-term, we will upgrade tourism infrastructure facilities which will bring comfort to tourists in accordance with the standard operating procedures recommended by the Ministry of Health.

"This is a true picture of the future tourism sector with the new norms and what is important is our success in tackling this crisis will depend on nationwide co-operation," he said.

The ministry is also prepared to work on reviving the state's tourism sector with foreign investors, he said.

Jafry also said he will discuss the matter with tourism operators when the Control Movement Order (CMCO) ends in Sabah on the 26th of October.

"I want to hear their grouses because they are among the most affected by this pandemic. We will see what we can do to help them in the post -COVID-19 recovery phase,” he said.
