PENANG:

The newly launched Prestige Hotel in Penang is designed keeping the surrounding in mind. The hotel is located within the core zone of the UNESCO World Heritage Site situated in George Town, it is an 8,570sq m hotel which is designed by Singapore-based organization, Ministry of Design.

The hotel is newly constructed with the blend of 19th-century colonial buildings found in the area, representing a modern-day interpretation of colonial Victorian design and architecture. The hotel is all about projecting elegance and sophistication. The hotel is named after the movie The Prestige starring Christian Bale, which was set in the Victorian era about the illusory art of magic and has been incorporated in the form name.

The property has 162-room which is a part of the prestigious Design Hotels group, the features include an all-day dining restaurant, a rooftop infinity pool, events pavilion and terrace, and a Victorian dining and retail arcade. However, there are four types of rooms at the hotel: the standard room named the Deluxe, the Premier Deluxe Suite, the Loft Suite and the Deluxe Trio room which incorporates a mini- bedroom for a child traveling with parents.

The layout of the hotel is long and narrow which made the designers incorporate elements of visual surprise and illusions to break the monotony from passing its long guestroom corridors and retail arcade portraying a fine piece of art. There is an acute focus on minute details including furniture design such as the custom reception desk that signifies the magical balance of the main desk on balls, and most importantly hidden doors in guestrooms that open to reveal toilets and pantries.

To add a local and distinct touch and feel, 20 unique features of Penang are represented in the lift, custom-designed with a floor-to-ceiling tinted metal wall. The graphic pattern engraved represents outlines of heritage buildings, famous landmarks and also the local plants of Penang.

The Glasshouse is basically inspired by the English Victorian era fully embellished and decorated with lattice patterns and metal-framed walls along with glass.
