PENANG:

Penang International Food Festival (PIFF) is back from August 20 to 28, 2022 and will feature all kinds of Penang cuisine across the island and mainland! A go-to Festival for food lovers, the nine-day Festival aims to bring communities together through a celebration of food and intends to showcase the diverse tastes and exceptional talent of Penang’s culinary scene while promoting the local culinary industry. Further, the Festival also aims to allow festival-goers to discover the diversity of the state to align itself with the ‘Opposite Side of the Island – Seberang Perai' and 'The Other Side of the Island' campaigns by the Penang State Government.
This year, PIFF 2022 returns with two major events, six mini-festivals, and three cooking classes happening at various locations on the island and mainland, which are all dedicated to showcasing Penang’s world-renowned and diverse food scene! Touted by Condé Nast Traveler as ‘Asia's Next Great Foodie City’, Penang is known globally for its legendary foodscape, one that is expansive and diverse, just like the people that make up the state. In line with the Penang State Government's recently launched the ‘Opposite Side of the Island – Seberang Perai' campaign intended to promote Seberang Perai, the Festival’s opening weekend will be held on the mainland. Kicking off the Festival on 20 & 21 August is the ‘Street Food Festival’ which will gather some of the best food hawkers from the island and mainland in one place at Design Village Outlet Mall. This is the first time the Festival opens in Seberang Perai and is expected to draw food-loving visitors and tourists to discover the mainland while savouring Penang’s street food delights. Other than a diverse array of street food, visitors to the ‘Street
Food Festival’ can expect fireworks display, funfair and live performances, making it an Instagrammable event for everyone.

The Festival’s closing weekend will be held on the island on 27 & 28 August, with its major event ‘Taste of Penang’ slated to take place at Jalan Kelawai. ‘Taste of Penang’ showcases the state's modern food scene, where festival-goers can easily hop from one popular cafe, restaurant or hotel to the next in a matter of seconds. Festival-goers can also expect live performances, a picnic area and a cooking demonstration.

Other than the two major events, food lovers can also expect six mini-festivals like ‘Picnic @Roof Garden’, ‘Gertak Sanggul Food Truck Rally’, ‘Mini Curry Festival’, ‘Thirsty Thursday’, ‘RM2 Mini Food Festival’, and ‘Santai Morning’ from August 22 – 27, 2022. Each mini-festival has its uniqueness and is intended to shine a spotlight on Penang’s specific culinary scene.

Furthermore, festival-goers can also expect cooking classes where they can learn how to cook flavourful local dishes. The Penang International Food Festival 2022 is organised by TLM Event, endorsed by the Penang State Government and is fully supported by the Penang Island City Council (MBPP), Seberang
Perai City Council (MBSP) and Penang Global Tourism (PGT).
