Malaysia has announced the development of a major integrated hub combining seafood production, maritime services, and sustainable tourism in Sekinchan, Selangor, in a move to boost the local fisheries sector and promote inclusive regional development.
Launched by Selangor Chief Minister Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, the Sekinchan Integrated Landing Port aims to transform the coastal district of Sabak Bernam into a growth engine for the state.
“This is about unlocking long-term value through infrastructure that empowers people, sustains livelihoods, and ensures no region is left behind. We are laying the foundation for a better future, not only for the current generation but for generations to come,” Amirudin said at the project launch.
With an initial investment of RM500 million (USD118.2 million), Phase 1 of the development will span five years, with 80% of the hub built over water. The project includes a centralized jetty and fisheries complex, a modern fish auction hall, logistics centre, new public beach, retail outlets, and serviced accommodation.
According to MBI Selangor, the state government’s asset and investment management agency, the initiative will also generate direct employment opportunities and bolster Sabak Bernam’s appeal as a tourism destination. It is expected to open new pathways for local entrepreneurs to commercialize community-based products, aligning with sustainable and inclusive economic growth goals.
Construction is scheduled to begin by end of 2026.
