Klang has officially launched its Royal City Tourism Action Plan 2035, setting an ambitious course to transform the historic royal town into a globally recognised tourism destination over the next decade.
Unveiled by Klang Municipal Council (MPK) Mayor Dato’ Abd Hamid Hussain, the blueprint outlines a comprehensive strategy covering infrastructure development, heritage conservation, tourism management, public amenities, and sustainable economic growth. The plan is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and will span from 2025 to 2035.
The action plan focuses on strengthening Klang’s appeal across multiple tourism segments, including heritage and culture, ecotourism, agrotourism, maritime attractions, gastronomy, shopping, industrial tours, and sports and recreation. Upgrades under the initiative are expected to raise property values and increase investor interest in the tourism sector.
Developed through extensive stakeholder engagement, including focus group discussions with tourism operators, developers, hoteliers, and government agencies, the plan addresses key challenges such as urban aesthetics, cleanliness, infrastructure, and conservation.
Referring to the Klang Royal City Local Plan 2035 (Amendment 1), Mayor Hamid stressed that tourism is central to preserving Klang’s royal identity and historical legacy. He reaffirmed that the action plan is critical to positioning Klang as a resilient, inclusive, and internationally competitive tourism destination.
