The Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH) has announced a landmark achievement for domestic tourism with the resounding success of the MAH Domestic Tourism Fair (MDTF) Kuala Lumpur 2025, held from 25 to 27 July at Pavilion Bukit Jalil. Now in its second year, the three-day event drew over 40,000 visitors, a record-breaking turnout that signals renewed enthusiasm for local travel among Malaysians.
Featuring more than 65 exhibitors from across the hospitality and tourism sectors—including leading hotels, resorts, tour operators, attractions, and tourism boards—the fair served as a one-stop platform for Malaysians to explore exclusive travel deals and holiday packages. The event was also aligned with the Jom Cuti-Cuti Malaysia campaign, which promotes domestic travel as a key pillar of national tourism growth.
In a notable move to make tourism more inclusive, MDTF 2025 also introduced special privileges for civil servants, aiming to expand access to affordable and enriching travel experiences across all levels of society.
The event was officially officiated on Saturday, 26 July, by Mr. Chua Choon Hwa, Deputy Secretary General (Tourism), Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC), who commended the initiative’s focus on local destinations.
“While many travel fairs tend to focus on outbound tourism, MDTF 2025 places Malaysian attractions in the spotlight,” said Mr. Chua. “It directly supports our national goal of strengthening domestic tourism and empowering local industry players.”
Dato’ Khoo Boo Lim, Organising Chairman of MDTF 2025, expressed his gratitude for the strong public response.
“Our vision has always been to make luxury domestic travel affordable and accessible, while boosting the resilience of our local hospitality industry. The overwhelming response is a clear sign that Malaysians are eager to rediscover their own country.”
Building on this momentum, MDTF 2025 will now continue its nationwide tour with upcoming editions in Johor Bahru (29–31 August, AEON Mall Tebrau City) and Penang (24–26 October, Sunway Carnival Mall). These events will also incorporate a wedding-themed showcase, offering travel and honeymoon packages for couples and families alike.
The success of MDTF Kuala Lumpur 2025 underscores the growing potential of domestic tourism to fuel economic recovery and industry revival. MAH extended thanks to Tourism Malaysia, event sponsors, exhibitors, volunteers, and attendees for their support in making the fair a key milestone in the nation’s tourism calendar.
