INDONESIA:

Indonesia’s Chairmanship at the 2023 ASEAN becomes an opportunity to strengthen and promote Indonesia’s tourism potential, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno said.
On Sunday, during a working visit to Malang, East Java, the minister stated that Indonesia’s chairmanship is an opportunity to demonstrate that Indonesia’s domestic tourism sector is the finest in the region.
“This is our opportunity to show that our domestic tourism is superior in the ASEAN region,” he emphasized.
He feels that the tourism industry in Indonesia is now superior to that of other ASEAN member nations such as Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines. He stated that Indonesia’s tourism potential is enormous.
With the tourism sector’s extremely promising potential, it must become the primary emphasis in order to recover the Indonesian economy, which was earlier affected by the epidemic, he noted.
“Let us focus on our tourism industry for our economic revival and provide economic solutions for the people,” he said.
Uno stated that there are a lot of tourism settlements in the Greater Malang area that have received national and international accolades and have good prospects.
PujonKidul Tourism Village in Malang District is one among them, having earned the 2021 Indonesian Tourism Village Award (ADWI) for the Inspirational Independent Village Category.
There was also Sanankerto Village, which garnered worldwide recognition for its participation in the 5th ASEAN Rural Development and Poverty Eradication Awards in 2022 after finishing third in the Tourism Attraction Village category.
“Therefore, I also encourage other tourism, not only in East Java but throughout Indonesia, to become a world-class tourism village,” he said.
In order to increase the quality of the tourist village, Uno stated that the government will help existing tourism and strengthen promotional efforts in order to maximise its potential.
“We will provide mentoring training and the Indonesian Tourism Village Award program will promote it. With this effort, we hope more tourists will come, both foreign and domestic,” he said.
On that occasion, the minister paid a visit to Malang’s Kayutangan Heritage Village, one of 75 Indonesian Tourism Villages set to open in 2023.
