JOHAR:

The Kukup International Ferry Terminal which was temporarily closed for two months was reopened yesterday, proving good relations between the state government and Indonesia.

Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Dr. Sahruddin Jamal said the good relations were evident when the Indonesian government granted permission for the ferry from Kukup to depart from and dock in Tanjung Balai.

Dr. Saharuddin said the state government had agreed to provide sufficient International Ferry Terminal operations to the Johor Public Corporation (PAJ) with the initial service in stages with five return trips from Kukup to Tanjung Balai.

It is estimated that in a month, about 13,000 passengers use the Kukup International Airport to get to Tanjung Balai. It was reported that the Kukup International Ferry Terminal was temporarily closed on September 1 and was relocated to the Puteri Harbour International Ferry Terminal in Iskandar Puteri.

The temporary closure was followed by a move by the state government to terminate the concession of companies operating the terminal for a number of reasons. However, on November 1, the terminal was scheduled to open on Nov 6, but had to be postponed and finally opened yesterday.
