The Office of the Penang State Executive Councillor for Tourism and Creative Economy (PETACE), in partnership with Penang Global Tourism (PGT), recently led a delegation of local tourism industry stakeholders to Taiwan for a promotional roadshow in Taichung and Kaohsiung.
In 2023, Penang welcomed 35,223 Taiwanese visitors, and this number surged to 42,035 in 2024, reflecting a remarkable 19.34% growth. Taiwan is now Penang’s fourth-largest international tourist market, following Indonesia, Singapore, and China.
The delegation’s efforts included not only promoting Penang’s tourism offerings but also engaging in productive discussions with prominent Taiwanese airlines, such as China Airlines, Tigerair Taiwan, Starlux Airlines, and HK Express. These conversations focused on exploring potential direct flight connections to facilitate smoother travel between Taiwan and Penang.
Looking to the future, Penang is committed to strengthening ties with Taiwan’s tourism sector and is excited to develop more personalized travel experiences for Taiwanese visitors, further enhancing Penang’s appeal as a top travel destination
