Penang’s first reclaimed waterfront expected to open in early 2021

Penang’s first reclaimed waterfront is expected to open early in the first quarter of 2021 for the public. It is located on 53.05 hectares of the Gurney Drive foreshore reclamation project, Gurney Wharf.

Penang chief minister Tanjung Pinang Development Sdn Bhd(TDP) said that they will hand over the land to the state government by September 2020. As of now, the project has received 15 hectares of land for the state.

He said “We had promised to create a park on the land. We will sign an agreement with the consultants and tenders will be called for the physical work (to be carried out) phase by phase,”.He also added that after 18 months the public will be able to enjoy the first phase of Penang’s waterfront according to the estimation of state government.

He added in a press conference in George Town “I think in June or July, we will start the contract,".

Chow added that the walking and cycling tracks had already been built and implemented and the state is currently working on the landscaping and grass planting.
