SABAH:

In the first five months of the year, just under a million tourists came to Sabah, according to the state's chief minister's most recent tourism update.

According to Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, who was quoted by Bernama news service, domestic and international travel arrivals totaled 988,680, an increase of 77.1% from the previous year. The number of visitors who arrived from January to May 2022 was 558,169.

According to tourism statistics for the first five months of this year, visitors from Malaysia accounted for 706,203 visits, while 282,450 came from abroad. Domestic and foreign travel generated MYR2.02 billion in tourism earnings.

The achievement "clearly demonstrates that the tourism sector in Sabah will continue to develop strongly this year and in the years to come," the chief minister reportedly remarked, according to the Bernama story. Through a variety of programs this year, the state government will continue to work to revitalize and promote the tourism sector.
