Melaka is set to make a bold leap into the future of travel with the upcoming launch of its Smart AI Tourism Melakainitiative, a state-driven digital transformation that promises to reshape how visitors explore the historic city. Slated for rollout in September 2025, the initiative leverages artificial intelligence (AI) to deliver a smarter, more interactive, and personalised tourism experience.
Spearheaded by Melaka ICT Holdings Sdn. Bhd. (MICTH) in collaboration with Maxis Broadband Sdn. Bhd., U Mobile Sdn. Bhd., and Rohas Euco Industries Berhad, the project aims to enhance visitor engagement through real-time virtual assistance, multilingual interactive content, and immersive storytelling.
Visitors will soon be able to interact with AI-powered virtual guides at key heritage and cultural sites. By scanning QR codes, tourists can instantly access rich multimedia narratives, personalised suggestions, and on-the-spot answers in multiple languages—removing language barriers and replacing static signage with a dynamic digital experience.
This innovation aligns with Melaka’s broader digital strategy and supports the national smart tourism agenda. The state currently boasts 99.97% 4G coverage in populated areas and nearly 90% 5G connectivity in major zones, ensuring seamless support for high-performance AI services.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh described the initiative as a cornerstone of Melaka’s digital tourism ambitions, aimed at boosting competitiveness and enhancing accessibility for a tech-savvy global audience.
With full 4G and 5G coverage targeted by 2027, Smart AI Tourism Melaka is expected to attract new visitor demographics, stimulate economic growth, and serve as a replicable model for other destinations in Malaysia and beyond.
Melaka is not just enhancing tourism—it’s reinventing it for the digital age.
