KUALA TERENGGANU:

After almost 30 years, the Terengganu Tourism and Culture Award (APKT) 2018/2019 will be held again this Saturday, thus boosting the sector in Terengganu.

State Tourism, Culture and Information Technology Committee chairman Ariffin Deraman said the event was a sign of the seriousness of the state government's commitment to uplifting Terengganu's industry and tourism.

“We are in a global community and Malaysia is watching the tourism and beauty products available in the state.

"So this award will definitely be a catalyst for the tourism industry players who have been striving to uplift Terengganu's name," he told a special media conference at Wisma Darul Iman here today.

According to Ariffin, 13 categories involving 31 awards will be presented to all selected tour operators from within and outside Terengganu.

He said that at the event, tourism figures, personalities and icons were the main awards given by the state government besides recognizing the best domestic tourism operators.

"We also do not forget the media whether it is print or electronic, the role they play will respond to some of the awards," he said, planning to hold the event as a bilingual event.

In addition, Ariffin announced that innovative, potential and best-selling tourism products will also be announced this February 1.

“In addition to tourism packages, hotel services, villas, tour guides, tourism events programs, transportation, cultural arts and the region are also presented at the event.

"The award ceremony is expected to be officiated by the Chief Minister, Dato 'Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar," he added.
